Chemical Operator

Role Description The Chemical Operator is a full-time, on-site role based in Murray, KY, responsible for operating, monitoring, and adjusting chemical processing equipment in accordance with established procedures and safety standards. Day-to-day tasks include handling raw materials, charging reactors, performing distillation and other process steps, sampling products for quality checks, and recording operating data. The Chemical Operator will follow standard operating procedures, support batch documentation, perform routine equipment inspections, and assist with basic troubleshooting to maintain efficient production. This role collaborates with quality control, maintenance, and supervisory personnel to ensure safe operations, product consistency, and compliance with environmental and regulatory requirements. The position involves working swing shift, using personal protective equipment, and participating in safety and continuous improvement initiatives.
Duties & Responsibilities
· Load and unload bulk (tank trucks, intermediate bulk containers, rail cars, super sacks, etc.) and non-bulk (drums, pails, bags, boxes, etc.) packages of chemicals; this also consists of climbing on vessels and other elevated surfaces.
· Transfer materials between various process vessels.
· Operate all plant utilities, including industrial boilers, water wells, etc.
· Operate and monitor all process and pollution control equipment.
· Operate powered industrial trucks (e.g., forklifts), process area hoists and cranes. This also consists of entering confined spaces and working from heights to perform work.
· Clean and service plant structures and equipment as assigned.
· Discharge, collect and properly manage waste and byproducts.
· Monitor plant processes and equipment for abnormal conditions and respond according to the plant’s Emergency Response Plan and Contingency Plan.
· Be knowledgeable and able to fulfil requirements of the Quality System including relevant procedures and work instructions.
Qualifications:
· Minimal education - High School Diploma, or equivalent.
· Ability to read and understand complex written instructions and understand and perform basic arithmetic.
· Successfully complete all levels of job specific training.
· Successfully complete initial and periodic powered industrial truck training.
· Successfully complete initial and periodic environmental, health and safety training
· The employee must be able to work 12-hour swing shift.
· The employee must have the ability to wear a half-faced breathing respirator at a minimum.
· Possess the physical strength and stamina necessary to work both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions to perform the following physical activities and complete the following tasks including but not limited to:
•walking, standing, sitting, reaching above shoulder height, bending at the waist, squatting, kneeling and crawling
•climb stairs and portable and fixed ladders
•manually move and position packages of various sizes and weights including but not limited to full and empty 55-gallon drums, 5-gallon pails, 50 pound bags and other packages of varying sizes and weights. Frequency of moving and positioning packages varies from light to heavy depending on job being performed.
•manually move and use various chemical and utility hoses (including charged 1.5- and 2.5-inch diameter hoses of various lengths), equipment, etc.
The provided/reimbursable Minimum PPE required is CAT 2 Fire Retardant clothing, safety glasses, hard hat, and hard toe shoes.
Additional Personal Protective Equipment is provided when:
- The employee may be exposed to dust.
- The employee may be exposed to noise.
- The employee may be exposed to outside weather, in all conditions.
- The employee may be exposed to chemicals used in the process.
