Salary:            $19.41 – $21.63/hour

Overtime:       Nonexempt

Description:

Under general supervision, reads all meters using established methods; assists with service work as requested; performs related duties as required.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsible for obtaining readings of all gas and water meters as assigned and on a timely basis.
  • Responsible for maintaining gas and water meters. This includes but is not limited to: marking meters, trimming around meters, cleaning out meter jars, changing out broken lids, changing out broken meter jars, and any other maintenance of meters and meter jars as deemed necessary.
  • Communicating and actively assisting in resolving any concerns or safety issues in regards to the maintenance of the meters and meter jars.
  • Assists with changing out and programming water meters.
  • Assists with installing and programming gas smart points.
  • Assists with service work and obtaining re-reads for the department.
  • Must fill out all necessary paperwork correctly and completely.
  • Assists with water service cut-offs as needed.
  • Cleans and maintains vehicle and tools.
  • Assists other departments as requested.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent (GED) - required.
  • Driver’s License – required.
  • Previous applicable experience – preferred.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of obtaining gas and water meter usage, water meter repair, and replacement.
  • Thorough knowledge of the geography of the service area plus location of gas and water meters.
  • Knowledge of work hazards and applicable safety procedures, and ability to follow established safety standards.

Abilities:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the general public.
  • Physical ability to work for extended periods of time during all weather conditions, including inclement weather.
  • Ability to work hours during the day but may be expected to work evenings and weekends.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with customers, co-workers, and supervision.

Processes: Work varies slightly and seldom required to take different, new, or unusual approaches in completing work.

Physical Requirements of the Job: Must be able to reach, grip, grasp, use fine motor skills, stoop, bend, climb, stand or walk, regardless of the weather; requires being in high places, confined spaces, or using stairs or ladders; lifting objects (more than 50 pounds); required to operate a vehicle or other equipment, must deal with insects and pets. Work is performed outdoors.

Tools, Equipment and Vehicles Used: Truck; cut-off wrench; pliers; shovel; post-hole digger; trimmer, paint, water pump; handheld device and/or other tools and equipment as applicable.
