SALARY:

   $17.41 – $19.63/hour, nonexempt

DESCRIPTION:

Under general supervision, assists in the daily operation and maintenance of the water plant involving the treatment of water; performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Assists in the daily operation and maintenance of the water plant; start-up and/or shut-down of plant and equipment, treatment of water in compliance with established procedures, standards, federal and state laws, and administrative regulations.
• Assists with inspection and/or monitoring of pumps, charts, gages and meters; monitors SCADA system.
• Adds chemicals in accordance with prescribed standards; assist lab personnel in collection of water samples; checks proper adjustment of feeder equipment; adjusts chemicals as necessary.
• Prepares and maintains accurate reports/records and forwards water samples and reports as required.
• Assists with performing servicing and preventive maintenance programs on plant and equipment; makes minor repairs and/or adjustments on plant and equipment.
• Assists with maintaining adequate inventory of spare parts, chemicals, equipment and tools.
• Assists with minor construction projects and cleaning of plant and grounds.
• Attends continuing education programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduation from high school or equivalent required.
• Must possess a valid drivers’ license.
• Prior related experience preferred.

MUST BE ABLE TO:

• Detect mechanical flaws and make minor repairs to plant and equipment.
• Assist with maintaining preventive maintenance and servicing program.
• Prepare and maintain accurate reports.
• Assist with maintaining inventory of chemicals, spare parts and tools.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Perform heavy labor for extended periods of time, often under adverse weather conditions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Work requires sitting at desk or table; some work is performed outdoors regardless of weather conditions, requiring intermittent standing, walking, stooping; must lift objects over 50 pounds; must operate vehicle and equipment; exposed to machinery and its moving parts; required to be in high places, confined spaces, and using stairs and ladders; exposed to fumes, chemicals and toxic substances as a requirement of the job.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess, or obtain within the first 18 months of employment, and maintain a Class I Water Treatment Plant Operators License issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky; must receive Class II, III and IV license within eighteen months after meeting experience requirements for each class license. Preference will be given to KY Water Treatment Plant Operator Class III-A and IV-A certifications.
